Resume Guide

Resume tailoring guide for data analysts and data scientists

Data resumes need to do two jobs at once: prove technical competence and prove business usefulness. Strong tailoring makes the target stack obvious, but it also shows how your analysis changed a decision, improved a process, or created measurable impact.

What to emphasize

  • The exact tools and methods the role calls for: SQL, Python, R, BI tools, experimentation, forecasting, dashboards, or ML workflows.
  • The domain context: product analytics, marketing analytics, operations, finance, experimentation, or machine learning.
  • The decision impact of your work, not just the deliverable.

How to tailor your bullets

  • Lead with the business problem first, then the analysis or model, then the outcome.
  • Promote the tools and metrics that match the posting instead of listing every tool equally.
  • Translate technical depth into hiring-manager value: faster reporting, better forecasts, cleaner experimentation, higher conversion, lower churn.
